Rolled out to motivate college and university students to consider a taking up Entrepreneurship for Sustainability, Sustenable Entrepreneurship Challenge (SEC), is our flagship event where participants are invited to pitch a for-profit entrepreneurial solution to tackle one of the many climate and social crises our planet faces today.
The event started off as the Sustenable Entrepreneurship Seminar & Workshop in Ahmedabad in January 2023 and overtime has taken the shape of Sustenable Entrepreneurship Challenge and should see more changes as the energetic and enthusiastic participants help us understand how to conduct this event better!
Format
The format shared here is from the perspective of participants who are not actively thinking in this direction. Where the participants are already ideating business plans for enterprises that work for sustainability, this format can be altered as required within reason.
It is a hour long event that is split into 3 parts:
1. Seminar (20 minutes)
Manil, our founder, first delivers a seminar introducing the concept of Entrepreneurship for Sustainability, followed by a comparison with sustainable enterprise. He shares examples of companies that embody entrepreneurship for sustainability.
2. Competition introduction and prep time: 20 minutes
The competition and its rules are introduced to the participants and they are invited to pitch their own enterprise for sustainability. They will have about 15 minutes to come up with an entrepreneurial solution to a problem identified during the seminar. They need to identify revenue streams and path to profit.
3. The pitch:
Participants will make their pitch. They will get a total of 3 minutes to make the pitch. This will be followed by a couple of questions from the judges panel if required. In the end a pitch will be declared the winner.
P.S. The participants should not prepare a pitch before the competition starts.
